As a thought leader to the European Utility and Energy industry, UtiliPoint International, Inc. will host its 2nd Annual European Executive Summit on March 22-24, 2009, at the beautiful Carton House Hotel, located 20 kilometers west of Dublin City Centre. Carton House offers a perfect blend of historical grandeur and modern sophistication. The theme of this year's Summit is "The Smart Utility and Energy Company-Smart Meters, Smart Utility, Smart Buildings, Smart Grid. How Smart is Your Company?" A Smart utility and energy company will be one that recognizes that "Smart Energy" is not just a fad, but rather a trend that will affect every aspect of the industry and will continue to grow with technologies incentives including: smart meters: smart distribution technologies; emission technology mandates: renewable mandates such as wind, solar and biomass; and government mandates encouraging the use of emission-free electricity; and customer management of their energy consumption through new tools and applications. This Summit will bring together senior executives from leading utility and energy companies from Europe and North America to explore strategic issues that will affect business opportunities, decision‐making, and the future direction of this important industry. During this event, we will explore the many opportunities, obstacles, and challenges of the "Smart Energy" trend. The event kicks off on Sunday, March 22, 2009 with a golf outing at the Carton House O'Meara Championship Golf Course. Players will enjoy play that winds its leisurely way through acres of glorious pastures amongst the dappled shade of the ancient tress. This classic parkland course might lull players with its beauty but it is still full of challenges. Later in the day we will host a reception at the Carton House. This will be a great opportunity for our attendees to network before the meeting begins on Monday morning. Following the Summit, attendees will have an opportunity to see firsthand how Europe is moving to a more sustainable energy economy during a tour of the Dundalk Sustainable Energy Zone-a 1.5 square-mile site located on Ireland's east coast in the town of Dundalk-a town of about 30,000 people. This five-year project was established in June of 2007, as part of a European Union program to develop clean energy sources and reduce energy demands that can ultimately be scaled up to regional or national levels. Dundalk is setting out to provide a showcase of some of the innovative technologies, policies and practices that will be needed in order to develop sustainable energy communities in Ireland and elsewhere. During the tour, you will see how various energy-efficiency technologies are being used in a wide variety of buildings across the Dundalk Sustainable Energy Zone-an industrial park, a college campus, a high school, a hotel, and other businesses and two housing developments-and hear from those experts directly involved in this project. The Sustainable Energy Zone tour includes an introduction by Louth County Council, Michael Curran, Director of Services, Community and Enterprise and visits to the following: Carlinn Hall-a new housing scheme with wood fueled district heating. The Summit takes place on Monday, March 23, 2009 and Tuesday, March 24, 2009.
