UtiliPoint International Helps Make St. Bernard Project Homes Smart

For Immediate Release

March 12, 2010-Albuquerque, N.M. USA-UtiliPoint International and The Intelligent Project LLC today announced that they will donate smart-energy appliances to the St. Bernard Project, the highly acclaimed, New Orleans-based organization known for its efficient rebuilding model that allows Hurricane Katrina survivors to return to their homes and communities. Peter Shaw, managing director of The Intelligent Project, will present the donation at Transformation | 2010, at the Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans on March 16- 17, 2010. Transformation | 2010 is a UtiliPoint conference focusing on utility industry transformation, including how smart grids can benefit all customer types, from residential to industrial.

"We are pleased to support the St. Bernard Project's efforts to incorporate 'smart energy' and sustainable design innovations into the new and re-built homes of Hurricane Katrina survivors," Mr. Shaw said. "The success of the St. Bernard Project is a testament to the ongoing transformation of New Orleans into an exemplary, sustainable city."

It's been more than four years since Hurricane Katrina caused widespread damage to the New Orleans area. Every single home in the St. Bernard Parish was rendered unlivable due to flooding and 80 percent of New Orleans was flooded. In the past three years, the St. Bernard Project has rebuilt more than 265 homes in St. Bernard and Orleans parishes-with the help of more than 19,500 volunteers from around the world. Despite this great achievement, more than 10,000 families in the New Orleans area are still living in FEMA trailers or other temporary housing.

"We are thrilled to partner with UtiliPoint and The Intelligent Project to make St. Bernard Project homes more sustainable," said Zack Rosenburg, St. Bernard Project CEO. "Our clients are hardworking homeowners who have faced barrier after barrier in their quest to return home. These appliances over time can empower them to save money on their energy bills and invest those savings into their families and their community's continued recovery."

Entergy New Orleans, Inc., the electric utility that serves New Orleans, has been an active sponsor and partner of the St. Bernard Project since its inception. "Entergy believes strongly in the work of the St. Bernard Project and its efforts to combine affordable housing design and smart energy concepts. We applaud UtiliPoint and The Intelligent Project's efforts in support of the St. Bernard Project and our customers. Entergy looks forward to collaboration regarding community smart energy solutions like those envisioned by The St. Bernard Project," said Rusty Burroughs, vice president of Entergy's Integrated Energy Management organization.
