Albuquerque, NM—August 2, 2006—UtiliPoint International, Inc. (UtiliPoint), the utility and energy industry's premier research-based consultancy announced today that Ed Malemezian, President and Principle of Ed Malemezian Consulting, is now an affiliate of UtiliPoint. Mr. Malemezian received his B. S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Florida and is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Florida.

Mr. Malemezian serves the needs of clients requiring an in-depth understanding of the metering industry, providing meter consulting services to those needing customer focused, practical solutions to the metering problems facing utilities, equipment suppliers, and system developers, in order to help improve their profitability and competitiveness. In 2001 Mr. Malemezian retired from EDMpro.com, the unregulated Energy Data Management business of Florida Power & Light. At EDMpro, Mr. Malemezian served as the manager of data collection and directed a staff responsible for the metering and load profile data activities of EDMpro customers. Efficient meter strategies for analyzing customer energy usage patterns were a fundamental output of this staff. Statistical sampling plans and powerful analysis tools supported this activity. Mr. Malemezian's extensive experience and depth of knowledge supported the development of meter strategies for new and emerging markets. His detailed understanding of metering equipment and support systems allow for the effective implementation of strategies for real time and near real time monitoring and analysis activities.

Prior to joining EDMpro.com, Mr. Malemezian directed meter engineering at FPL. In this capacity, he was responsible for metering standards, specifications, policies, evaluations, and development of related systems, required by FPL to meter approximately $6 billion in annual revenue. His 25+ years of metering experience cover all facets of the discipline from field metering, to meter shop, to meter laboratory / standardization, to meter engineering, including effective interfacing with virtually all departments within FPL. Mr. Malemezian's experience and understanding of statistical methods and implementation skills provided FPL with one of the most efficient in-service meter sampling programs in the country. Projects developed or supported include: Smart Meters for AMR and Power Quality Monitoring / Outage Notification; One of the larger MV-90 Load Profile Data Collection Systems in the world; FPL's On-Call, 2-way Load Management System for direct load control of approximately 1000 MW via 700,000 residential customers; FPL's Commercial Industrial Load Control System for interactive direct load control of approximately 500 MW via CI customers; FPL's 2-way AMR System for remote reading of approximately 40,000 hard to read meters; publication of a number of metering articles in periodicals such as T&D Magazine, Electrical World, and Metering International. Mr. Malemezian is a frequent speaker at industry conferences, delivering presentations on topics from basic metering to AMR / AMI, Demand Response / Load Control, Revenue Assurance, and AMR Business Cases. He also applies his expertise and experience as an Expert Witness in litigation involving meter codes and standards, meter practices, and meter operations.

Mr. Malemezian is a respected member of the metering community. His views on current metering issues are sought out by his peers, equipment developers, and those involved with competitive metering and billing systems worldwide. Mr. Malemezian's suggestions, active participation in, and significant contributions to American National Standards Institute (ANSI) working committees resulted in a number of revolutionary changes in several of the most recent publications of the ANSI C12 family of meter standards.

Prior to his involvement in metering, Mr. Malemezian worked a number of assignments in Power Delivery (substation and protective relaying) and Transmission & Distribution (overhead, underground, transmission, and engineering). This experience included both FPL staff and operations assignments. Overall, his 35+ years of utility and consulting experience provide him with a multitude of national contacts and a working knowledge of how to get things done when working with utilities of all flavors.
