| The AMR market has matured but is continuing to benefit from advances in technology and from utilities and vendors extended the value of the AMR data from the back office into distribution planning and engineering. Over time, UtiliPoint® expects that most new AMR implementations will be based on fixed networks allowing utilities, regulators, retail providers, and retail customers to embark on new and innovative initiatives to lower costs, improve customer service and expand customer options. A key driver for the current AMR market is regulatory interest in promoting time-differentiated rates for the smaller retail customers. UtiliPoint® sees as inevitable that regulators interested in promoting retail deregulation will opt to strongly encourage the distribution utilities to install Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) to provide interval energy usage for the smaller customers. This would enable retail providers to identify customers who cost less to serve, and to offer pricing plans to these customers that reflect the lower cost of service. Without AMI in place, retail providers are more-or-less forced to mirror the structure of the default rate offered by the default provider, and are not able to benefit from acquiring customers that are less costly to serve. For each AMR vendor, UtiliPoint® has provided general information about the company and the AMR offerings, recent news for the company, and an evaluation of the strengths of the vendor AMR solution. The InfoGrid is updated monthly, and new information is highlighted in yellow to alert subscribers to new information.
